How much is a Charizard card worth?

Updated: 2026-10-17

A Charizard card can be worth anything from a few dollars to thousands: it depends on which one it is. The most valuable are from the first set (Base Set) with the 1st Edition stamp or shadowless, the old Shining and Gold Star cards and some modern special illustrations. To know what yours is worth, identify the exact set and number.

How to identify your Charizard

  1. The number at the bottom (e.g. 4/102) tells you the set. See how to read the card number.
  2. The set symbol next to the number (Base Set cards have none).
  3. Holo or not, and whether it has the 1st Edition stamp or is shadowless.

Watch out for fakes

Charizard is the most counterfeited card. Before buying an expensive one, see how to tell if it's fake and, if graded, check the certificate.
